DVOŘÁK MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Antonín Dvořák birthouse in Nelahozeves (a small village just north of Prague) is a Dvorak family tavern and butcher shop where the famous Czech composer was born in 1841. The house was returned to the Lobkowicz family in 1993 under the restitution laws and today the house is open for the public. The National Museum currently operates an exhibition there, but a future renovation and improvement program has been initiated and preliminary plans are already underway. It is hoped that a successful fundraising campaign will create an even richer environment for learning about and listening to the music of Antonín Dvořák.
In the mid 1990’s, The Dvořák Music Festival was founded at Nelahozeves Castle. In its 12 year history, over 500 concerts have taken place featuring performers such as Renee Fleming, Barbara Hendricks, Josef Suk and Eva Urbanová, to name just a few. Numerous local and international orchestras, chamber and vocal groups have also performed in locations that also include other historical venues in and around Prague.
